Where is Fargo filmed and set? – TV Show Filming Locations

Where is Fargo the TV series filmed and set?

Beginning in the fall of 2013, production of this 10-part television series used filming locations in and around Calgary, Alberta, Canada, including the town of Strathmore.

One of the biggest challenges that faced the Fargo cast and crew during shooting was the cold and snow of the bitter Canadian winter, where temperatures regularly dropped down into the -30’s Celsius.

While being filmed in Calgary, the TV show is mainly set in the cities of Bemidji and Duluth, Minnesota. Also featured in the series, Fargo itself is the largest city in the US State of North Dakota, just on the Minnesota border.

Fargo is a dark comedy crime-drama based on the Coen brothers 1996 Oscar-winning film. Episode 1 premieres in the US on FX on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 and in the UK on Channel 4 on Sunday, 20 April, 2014.

Plot

Set around drifter/hitman Lorne Malvo and insurance salesman Lester Nygaard’s path of destruction, season 1 of Fargo follows Police Deputy Molly Solverson and Officer Gus Grimly’s efforts to discover the truth behind a string of murders and bring the pair to justice.

Season 2

The good news is a new series of Fargo has been commissioned and it looks likely to be a prequel. The bad news is little to none of the original TV cast are expected to return. Personally I was hoping for a prequel set just a few years before season 1, based around the antics of Lorne Malvo, again played by Billy Bob Thornton.

Anyway, despite that not being the case, things are still sounding very tasty. Series 2 will apparently be set in the late 1970’s in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where as alluded to by Lou Solverson in the first season, some kind of incident led to there being bodies “stacked so high you could’ve climbed to the second floor.”

Though no air date has yet been confirmed, we expect (and hope) to see season 2 of Fargo premiere in 2015.
